Apple to launch iPad mini in October, iPhone 5 on September 12

Apple would announce the iPhone 5 on September 12th in a press event with a release date set for September 21 and the iPad mini would be announced in October.

Back in July, the rumors of iPad mini and iPhone 5 announcement got shape when iMore reported citing very reliable sources that Apple would be announcing both the devices in a press event on September 12th. Since then the date has been confirmed by several news outlets and Apple insiders. John Gruber of Daring Fireball however questioned the authority of the report by raising the point that Apple won’t share the spotlight among two devices when they have ample time before fall. They have two devices to announce and two separate chances to get press coverage, they’d avail both. He wrote:

…I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? So I thought, well, maybe they’d only seed the review units of the iPhone on September 12, with the new-size iPad going into reviewer hands a few weeks later.

The September 12th date for iPhone 5 announcement still remains unquestioned but John Paczkowski of AllthingsD cites unnamed sources to confirm what John Gruber had to say: Apple would be announcing iPad mini in October rather than at the September 12th event. The exact date of the event is not yet known.
