Apple never stops lending features from the jailbreak community, they lent the notification center, lock screen notifications, multitasking, app folders and a lot more but what you haven’t noticed yet is another new feature in iOS 6 lent from the jailbreak community: viewing apps as mini windows. iOS 6 has brought 200 new features to the iDevice ecosystem, while some major ones were announced by Apple during their WWDC keynote, there are many others yet to be discovered. While we are digging in, a twitter user has discovered that when you click on an app store link in iOS 6 Mail app, a mini App Store window opens up in the foreground giving you a full preview of the app before you decide to open it in the App Store. Here’s the screenshot: This new app-preview feature works in iOS 6 Mail app of both iPhone and the iPad and brings forth iOS 6′s ability to open up apps as windows. Although it is currently working with the Mail app only, and opens up only App Store as a mini window, it’s not far from possibility that Apple allows other apps to make use of the functionality and adds support for it in the SDK too. If not, I’m pretty sure, they’d make it available for Safari at least, so that we can view/preview any webpage links within Safari as well as in other apps If you are a developer and find any traces of this functionality for other apps or in the SDK, hit me up at owaeis@gmail.com. I’d love to share your findings with the readers.
