@Pod2g shows iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on iPad 3 [video] (update: works on iOS 5.1.1 too)

on 11 May at 7:31 pm

@pod2g has been hard at work with iOS hacking for a while, he did a great job with iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 5 which was not being achieved for a long time. He has been working with other hackers to achieve a jailbreak on iOS 5.1, the good news is that, he has not only succeeded in jailbreaking iOS 5.1 on A4 devices but also on A5 devices including iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and even the recently released iPad 3. Many of the hackers had demoed the iPad 3 jailbreak soon after its release but none of them have released anything yet. @pod2g’s iOS 5.1 jailbreak is an untethered one which means you won’t have to connect your iPhone or iPad with a computer to maintain the jailbreak every time you boot it. Here’s a video demo of iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on an iPad 3:

Although the jailbreak has been achieved and demoed on video, it is not released yet. Usually there’s a lot of work in packaging the jailbreak in a nice tool so that users can easily jailbreak their devices without any hassle. @pod2g has confirmed on twitter that the jailbreak is not yet packaged in a tool and would take several weeks to release:

ETA for 5.1 jailbreak: look at my previous tweets. Some weeks away to have a nice, user friendly tool. No beta, sorry, even for $1,000,000.

Apple has released iOS 5.1.1 a few days ago and if by chance you have upgraded your iDevice to it, you won’t be able to take advantage from @pod2g’s upcoming jailbreak but there’s nothing to worry about as iPhone Dev Team has released redsn0w 0.9.11b1 today which allows you to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 to an iOS version of your choice. We have a detailed write up on redsn0w 0.9.11b1, if you want to downgrade.

Update: @pod2g has just confirmed that his upcoming untethered jailbreak is compatible with iOS 5.1.1 too as he has tested it on an iPad 3:

OK, tested on an iPad 3,1 running 5.1.1. Jailbroken untethered. :-) No issue.
